After months of speculation, the recent announcement by the Daniel Andrews Labor Government of the preferred route of the North-East link has revealed spiraling costs along with the compulsory acquisitions of homes and businesses. This will easily be the most costly project in Victoria’s history.
- Compulsorily acquisitions – up to 75 homes and 140 businesses – Yallambie, Rosanna
- $16.5 billion price tag
- Toll Road
- Project to start 2020
The project was originally costed by Labor in 2008 at $6 billion. A few months ago in August 2017, Daniel Andrews said the road would cost “around $10 billion”. The current price tag of $16.5 billion means that within a few short months the costs have increased billions.
This is the same Daniel Andrews who paid $1.2 billion not to build the East-West Link which would have eased congestion by connecting the end of the Eastern Freeway at Clifton Hill with CityLink in Parkville.
When it comes to roads infrastructure Daniel Andrews’ Labor Government can’t count the cost and can’t be trusted.
Only the Liberals can ease congestion on our roads.
